About the work
A hare emerges from a top hat, gazing expectantly upwards, a magic wand at its side. In "519 | 2024", Juliane Golbs takes up an image familiar to anyone who knows the world of conjuring and turns it into a scene of wonder. The background is strictly built: diagonal bands in petrol blue, ochre and bordeaux cross a grid of pastel lozenges reminiscent of a harlequin pattern. Over this lie small blossoms, golden monograms and crowns, some running, some precisely placed. The hare itself is rendered in warm browns and pinks with a loose, painterly stroke, the top hat in a transparent grey through which the pattern shows. Within the Fifth Season series, the work marks the playful pole: lightness as a conscious choice. The hare, in the artist's visual language a sign of quick-wittedness, becomes the protagonist here. At 60 × 80 cm in acrylic on canvas, the painting suits a library, a study or the children's room of a collector's home.

Some pictures begin with an idea. These two series began with life itself – with fear, with time given back and with the decision to celebrate it.
