About the work
“503 | 2024” lives from the transition between two greens. On the left a clear yellow-green opens up, suggesting spring leaves against the light; on the right the colour deepens into a rich meadow green. Over this field Juliane Golbs lays a veil of small blossoms in lilac blue, pink and white that gathers towards the right half of the picture. Between them the JG monogram and small crowns shimmer in gold lacquer, like watermarks in precious paper. The combination of acrylic and gold lacquer on canvas means that these signs appear and recede with the fall of the light. The square format of 80 × 80 cm brings calm to the animated painting; the work suits rooms in which it is seen from a middle distance, above a chest of drawers or in a study. Within the series Fifth Season it stands for the freshness of the present: light appears here not as grand pathos but as the quiet glow of individual flowers.

Some pictures begin with an idea. These two series began with life itself – with fear, with time given back and with the decision to celebrate it.
