About the work
Hundreds of short dabs of mint, turquoise, dusky pink and lilac cover the canvas like a dense carpet of blossoms. At its heart two bands of signal orange glow, crossing the picture and guiding the eye. At the left edge and lower right, stencilled signs emerge, the JG monogram and anchors in gold lacquer and brown, half covered by paint, as if hidden beneath the vegetation. “502 | 2024” comes from the series Fifth Season, in which Juliane Golbs understands joy as an attitude of attention. Painted with acrylic, acrylic lacquers and gold lacquer, the surface alternates between matt and gloss. The technique of dabbing recalls the colour division of the late Impressionists, yet follows no optical system, only the rhythm of the hand. The signets anchor the picture in the artist’s personal vocabulary of signs. At 80 × 100 cm the work is a lively accent for living and working spaces. It is currently unavailable.

Some pictures begin with an idea. These two series began with life itself – with fear, with time given back and with the decision to celebrate it.
