About the work
“13 | 2022” is a work in which picture and frame form a whole. Juliane Golbs paints with acrylic, acrylic lacquers and gold lacquer on canvas and carries the painting behind and over a golden glass frame, which is additionally enclosed here by an ornamental moulding in bright pink. On a ground of orange and golden ochre, crossed by fine golden runs, a cascade of blossoms unfolds in lilac, aubergine, lavender and white. Small golden squares float between them, and gestural lines in turquoise and lime green give the composition movement. The contrast between the formality of the historicising frame and the spontaneity of the painting is deliberate: the decorative is quoted and released at the same time. In the series Everlasting Blossoms, part of whose proceeds goes to the NCL Foundation, the work stands for a blossom that is held and preserved. The small format of 48 × 65 cm suits cabinet rooms, dressing rooms or an accent within a hang of several pictures. The work is currently unavailable.
