About the work
The surface of “517 | 2024” is as dense as a woven textile. Hundreds of small flower forms in rosé, white and sky blue are scattered across a ground of apricot, soft pink and pale blue, while dark, almost square dabs set a calm rhythm between them. Only on approach do the signs emerge that Juliane Golbs inscribes into her paintings: small crowns, the monogram and, in one place, a hare. This acrylic painting on canvas does without a centre; its even distribution recalls the all-over structures of post-war abstraction, transposed into a light, pastel key. At 70 × 100 cm the work reads like a detail of a larger meadow whose edges one continues in the mind. In the series Fifth Season, which grew out of the experience of lived and unexpectedly extended time, it stands for happiness in small things: many single moments together form a luminous field. The work is currently unavailable; the studio will gladly show comparable pieces on request.

Some pictures begin with an idea. These two series began with life itself – with fear, with time given back and with the decision to celebrate it.
