About the work
The curving silhouette of a Hamburg landmark, drawn in lavender and white, stands at the centre of "504 | 2024". Juliane Golbs surrounds the architecture with a swarm of short, sprayed and dabbed patches of colour in turquoise, petrol, pale blue and rosé; bright signal orange breaks through in single splashes. In the background a metallic ground shimmers, on which golden anchors and monograms barely surface and vanish again. The building seems not constructed but assembled from colour and air, like an image one carries home after an evening at a concert. Acrylic and gold lacquer on canvas allow this alternation between matt sprayed texture and glossy surface. In the Fifth Season series, which is concerned with lived time and the light of the present, the place becomes a store of shared moments. At 80 × 100 cm, the portrait format is easy to place – in a study with a view over the city, or as a keepsake in a home with ties to Hamburg.

Some pictures begin with an idea. These two series began with life itself – with fear, with time given back and with the decision to celebrate it.
