About the work
A dense, almost textile carpet of blossoms fills the entire surface of "501 | 2024". Countless short, impasto brushstrokes in magenta, rosé, lilac and white lie over fields of turquoise and sage green that grow stronger towards the right. In the left half, the signs that run through Juliane Golbs's work shimmer in gold lacquer: the JG monogram, anchors, crowns and hares, set in loose rows as on a brocade. The composition deliberately does without a centre. Much as with Japanese folding screens bearing flower motifs, the eye travels across the width and finds new nuances everywhere. The painting is executed in acrylic and gold lacquer on a panel whose smooth surface lets the colours stand out with particular clarity. In the Fifth Season series, it embodies light in the present: abundance without pathos. The landscape format of 140 × 100 cm works well above a sofa or sideboard, where it forms a calm, colourful horizontal.

Some pictures begin with an idea. These two series began with life itself – with fear, with time given back and with the decision to celebrate it.
