About the work
Before a graphite-grey surface on a black-primed canvas, a classic roadster appears, drawn in lines alone. In "07 | 2022", Juliane Golbs handles the brush like a drawing pencil: pale blue, ice blue and a sandy gold outline wings, headlamps, steering wheel and windscreen without filling the bodywork. Behind the car a golden cloud rises, as if dust or evening light were being stirred up. From the lower contour the paint runs off in long drips and lifts the vehicle from the ground – a deliberate moment of dissolution that shifts the motif into memory. Acrylic and gold lacquer on black canvas provide maximum contrast; the gold reflects, the black absorbs light. The Golden Things series asks how gold preserves the fleeting hour, and here it does so for an object that itself stands for nostalgia. The landscape format works particularly well in rooms with clear architecture: a study, a bar or an entrance hall where design and craftsmanship are valued.
