About the work
A warm apricot ground carries this small upright format, applied flat and calmly, almost like a plastered wall in late afternoon light. From the right, palm fronds and foliage push into the picture in quick green brushstrokes, with white blossoms between them, laid on thickly and roughened with chalk. Runs of paint trickle vertically downwards and keep the time of painting visible. In “06 | 2026” Juliane Golbs works with acrylic and chalk; the dry material breaks the smooth surface and brings a drawn trace into the leaves. It is precisely this quality of drawing that characterises Fifth Season #heaven can wait, the most recent chapter of the series, in which life appears as something delicate and at the same time persistent. The asymmetry recalls the spatial sense of Japanese folding screens, on which branches reach from the edge into empty fields. At 40 × 60 cm the work suits a hallway, a library or a narrow wall beside a window, where the apricot warms the room.
