About the work
Large flower forms in plum and magenta open in "Sunlight" like small explosions: fine lines radiate outwards from a darker centre, so that the blossoms recall both dahlias and reflections of light. Between them lie tendrils of ferns and palm fronds in emerald green, fields of lavender and white, and delicate lines drawn in pencil. Juliane Golbs combines acrylic, acrylic lacquers and pencils into a many-layered surface on which opaque passages sit beside translucent ones. Single golden traces in the upper area catch the light and explain the title. The work is characteristic of the series Fifth Season #heaven can wait: the composition is dense, almost overflowing, and yet drawing remains visible as a second layer. Towards the bottom the palette grows lighter and airier, as if the picture were exhaling. At 150 × 200 cm, this original painting unfolds an expansive, summery presence. It needs a calm wall on which its abundance can stand alone.

Some pictures begin with an idea. These two series began with life itself – with fear, with time given back and with the decision to celebrate it.
