About the work
A deep ultramarine, passing into midnight blue towards the edges, forms the ground. Onto it, from the upper half of the picture, falls a cascade of grasses and twigs hung with white and cream blossoms, here and there interspersed with bordeaux and dusky pink. The blossoms are set with short, impasto movements, the stalks with fine, rapid lines. On the left a pale stroke crosses the picture diagonally, like a ray of light falling into the room. “02 | 2025” by Juliane Golbs belongs to Fifth Season #heaven can wait and shows the series from its quietest side. The painting in acrylic on canvas sets light form against dark ground, a method that recalls the night pieces of art history, only without their drama. The picture feels cool and tender at once, a memory of abundance that never becomes loud. At 150 × 200 cm it is a calm centre for a bedroom, drawing room or dining room, especially in warm evening light.

Some pictures begin with an idea. These two series began with life itself – with fear, with time given back and with the decision to celebrate it.
