About the work
Across a landscape format of 200 × 150 cm spreads a garden that escapes every order. Palm fronds in violet, blossoms in plum, dusky pink and cream, and leaves in turquoise and emerald overlap in many layers. Red and orange lines, drawn in coloured pencil, lie over the painting like notes and give the dense weave a graphic tension. At the lower edge pale bands of colour run vertically downwards. “05 | 2026” is one of the most recent works by Juliane Golbs from Fifth Season #heaven can wait, in acrylic and coloured pencil on canvas. The closeness to drawing is particularly clear here; the lines remain standing even where the paint could have covered them. One thinks of tapestries with a millefleurs ground, on which plants fill the entire surface, yet the handling is gestural and of the present. The wide format suits a place above a sofa or a bench, where the picture reads like a landscape.

Some pictures begin with an idea. These two series began with life itself – with fear, with time given back and with the decision to celebrate it.
