About the work
This picture is born of movement. A glowing orange stroke loops across the surface, beginning at upper left and ending at lower right, like a signature on a large scale. Around it lie broad brushstrokes of dove blue, white and violet, with darker passages of midnight blue beneath. The ground is formed by areas of bronze and sand, from which thin runs trickle vertically. “36 | 2021” belongs to Golden Things and shows Juliane Golbs as a painter of gesture. Acrylic and acrylic lacquers allow both rich, glossy lines and matt, blurred areas here. The work is close to Art Informel and Action Painting, in which the act of painting itself becomes the subject; there is no motif, only the trace of the arm and the rhythm of colour. Therein lies its freshness. At 100 × 140 cm the upright format radiates energy, especially in clear, pared-back rooms where the orange can stand as the single strong accent.
