About the work
The black canvas gives “02 | 2023” its particular tension. At the centre of the wide landscape format Juliane Golbs sets a dense cloud of blossoms, splashes and lines that spreads like fireworks against the night sky. Gold and ochre form the core, surrounded by pink, coral, white and the odd touch of turquoise; thin bands of colour run downwards. Around this animated centre, small golden squares are scattered in a loose order, a calm grid that counterbalances the explosion. Acrylic, acrylic lacquers and gold lacquer on black canvas create strong contrasts: the glossy lacquers sit on the matt ground like points of light. In the series Everlasting Blossoms, which treats floral abstraction as an objection to transience, this work stands for the moment of greatest abundance. Part of the proceeds from the series supports the NCL Foundation. At 200 × 120 cm the work suits long walls, above a sofa or in a dining room with subdued light.
