About the work
Two orders meet in “28 | 2022”. On a deep midnight blue stands a pattern of pale, cream-coloured squares that join into stepped diagonals, a grid like an enlarged weave. Right through it Juliane Golbs draws broad, flowing brushstrokes in ice blue and petrol that recall script or water and run downwards in several places. Small pink blossoms sit like seals on the intersections. The play between geometric rigour and free gesture refers to a long debate in modernism about construction and expression, here without dogma and with an almost cheerful lightness. Within the Signature Collection, in which signs and monogram become a personal coat of arms, the grid reads like an abstract emblem. The compact format of 60 × 80 cm makes the work versatile: it holds a study as well as a library or a bedroom in cool tones.
