About the work
As part of a three-part ensemble, "54 | 2021" unfolds its effect in dialogue with its two neighbouring panels and yet holds its own as an independent picture. A pale ground of champagne gold and peach is structured by broad cloud forms in midnight blue, from which paint flows down in vertical drips. A luminous orange line runs through the centre, together with patches of pale blue, mint and mustard yellow that recall swirling light. Small blossoms in pink and white set occasional accents. Juliane Golbs works with acrylic and gold leaf; the metal lies in the upper zones and makes the picture glow warmly in daylight. Within the Signature Collection, the triptych shows how her visual language can be told across several panels. The slender portrait format of 100 × 200 cm lends the work an almost architectural proportion. Hung alone, it reads like a vertical band of light; together with the other parts, it forms a wall of great calm.
